My name is Scott and I started miniblogs.co.uk after building my own network of mini blogs on domains that had sat dormant for months, some for years! One day I recieved an email from my registrar saying I had 30 days to renew some of my domains. To be honest, I almost forgot about most of these domains. I thought “what a waste to let them expire” and decided to try and develop them to see if I could earn a passive income from each. It was a daunting task as I had around 80 domains to consider.
Originally, my first thought was to build up each of my domains the cheapest way possible. This meant uploading free themes, populating them with Adsense, affiliate banners, content, etc., not an easy task! Also, I didn’t want my “network” of blogs to appear dodgy or to be misconstrued as MFA sites or worse. I simply wanted each to earn a small but respectable amount each month. That was my goal.
After the labourious task of selecting the best free themes I could find, I soon realized my network looked less than ideal. I knew the search engine spiders didn’t care if my site(s) were ugly but I did, and I’d like to think my visitors did as well. If I’m being honest, it took me quite some time to upload each theme, tweak them to incorporate Adsense, create headers, make each search engine friendly, and so on. At the end of the process, I had a network of miniblogs optimized to my requirements however, my network looked a bit shabby!
One day I decided to bite the bullet and buy some very nice and professional looking themes from WooThemes, Revolution Two, Elegant Themes to name a few. I bought the developer’s license to allow me to upload these clean, professional themes on unlimited websites. It took me ages to replace the old “free” templates I spent so much time customizing with my new, nice-looking themes but in the end it was worth it and I have seen an increase in income which I don’t think is coincidental.
After showing a few friends my network of sites, they soon were asking me to create mini blogs for their domains. A few people told a few others and soon I was helping people monetise their domains with attractive, SEO-ready, mini blogs that not only helped them earn a bit of extra cash but also added value to the domain itself.
Moral of the story?
Why let your domain sit at some domain parking service [ie ghost town] or at your registrar [collecting dust] when you could have a professional blog installation, an attractive SEO-ready template and custom header all for less than a night out?
